A few months ago I made up a scrap yarn of all different kinds and colors for my little puppy to have a sweater during super cold days. It was and is the ugly sweater of dog sweaters, totally funky and colorful. As I was making it I remembered most of the projects each yarn was originally for but a few I was unsure of what they were left over from. My friend saw the sweater and wanted one for her puppy so here is Mabes in her purplicious sweater.
Materials Used:
- Red Heart Super Saver in Purple Tones & Medium Purple. Just under a skein of each.
- P Hook
Method:
Got measurements from my friend for her dog: the neck, top of collar to between her front legs, width between her legs, chest width and her back length.
Holding 2 strands together I started with the collar and did an 8 stitch wide rectangle till it was 9 inches in length so it would fit right around her neck once whip-stitched into a circle. Then going around the circle did rows of increases till it would stretch to fit around her chest and was the length needed to hit just where her legs start.
For the leg holes I continued working in the round and chained the length needed for between her legs then picked back up working in the round. Once I got back to where the chain began I skipped 5 stitches for the leg and used a quad stitch to crochet around the chain till I was left with 5 stitches for the other leg. once I had the leg holes I went around one more time and then started working in rows till I had the length of her back.
To finish off the “cape” I did some decreases so it wasn’t a rectangle and then did a simple edging to give it a more finished look.
This was a super quick project thanks to the double strands of yarn and the big hook and Miss. Mabes is a happy camper with her new sweater.
