Materials:

  • Medium worsted yarn (I use Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice® acrylic yarn)
  • Maroon (A)
  • White (B)
  • Size H/8 (5.000MM) crochet hook
  • Yarn needle
  • Scissors
Abbreviations:

  • hdc: Half double crochet
  • sc: single crochet
  • sl st: slip stitch
  • ch: chain
  • mc: magic Circle

Notes:

Child (4-12y) Beanie:

21”-22” Head Circumference
R1: In mc 10sc join (10)
R2: ch 2, hdc in same stitch, *2hdc in next stitch*, join (20)
R3: ch 2, hdc in same stitch, 1 hdc in next, *2hdc in next, 1 hdc in
next*, join (30)
R4: ch 2, hdc in same stitch, 1 hdc in next 2, *2hdc in next, hdc in
next 2*, join (40)
R5: ch 2, hdc in same stitch, 1 hdc in next 3, *2hdc in next, hdc in
next 3*, join (50)
R6: ch 2, hdc in same stitch, 1 hdc in next 4, *2hdc in next, hdc in
next 4*, join (60)
R7: ch 2 hdc in same stitch, 1 hdc in next 9, *2hdc in next, hdc in
next 9*, join (65)
R8-11: ch 2, hdc around (65)
**Change Color**
Color B // R12-13: ch 2, hdc around (65)
**Change Color**
Color A // R14: ch 2, hdc around (65)

Earflaps:  (Continue with Color A)
Side 1:  sl st
5, ch 1 in next stitch, R1: hdc in next 12, ch 1, turn R2-10:  skip first stitch hdc in remaining stitches,
ch 1, turn (row counts will be 11, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3) R11: skip first
stitch hdc in remaining stitches, finish off, weave in tail (2)
Side 2: Count over 20, join yarn in 21st  stitch, ch 1 R1: hdc in next 12, ch 1, turn
R2-10:  skip first stitch hdc in
remaining stitches, ch 1, turn (row counts will be 11, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3)
R8: skip first stitch hdc in remaining stitches (2)
Edging:
Starting at the top of the 2nd ear flap Ch 1 and then sc evenly down
the side, across the front of the hat you should have 20 stitches, then evenly
space sc up the side of ear flap #1, sc, ch1, sc in each of the 2 top stitches,
evenly space sc down the side, 19 sc across the back and then back up the other
side of flap #2, sc, ch1, sc in each of the 2 top stitches, join to the first,
tie off and weave in your end
**Change Color**
Color B // Join in the back of the hat – 1 sc in each sc around
(including the ch 1’s on the ends of the ear flaps)
Snowflake (4”):
Using White and h hook (for a smaller
snowflake use a smaller hook): 
R1: 12 sc in magic circle, join
R2: chain 3, skip sc sl st in next sc – around so you have 6 loops, the
last sl st should join the first stitch, ch 1
R3: in each loop: *2sc, ch3, 2sc*, join with sl st to first sc, sl st in
the first 2 sc of the row, ch 1
R4: in each ch3 loop:  *1sc, ch3,
1sc, ch5, 1sc, ch3, 1sc, ch3* join to first sc, finish off  
**note the ch3 is between the snowflake “spikes”

Materials:

  • Cotton WW yarn (I used Lily Sugar’n Cream)
  • J Hook
  • Yarn Needle
  • Button
Abbreviations:

  • sc: Single crochet
  • hdc: Half double crochet
  • ch: Chain
  • mc: Magic circle
Directions: 

R1: Starting with a magic circle ch2 and make 11 hdc in the mc (first 2 chains count as first stich)
join and chain 1
R2: 2hdc in each stitch around (24 hdc) join

R3: sc in first stitch, chain 3, skip next stitch, *sc in next stitch, chain 3, skip next stitch* around
you will end with the chain 3
Do not join this part is worked in a continuous round

R4 -8: *sc in the center of the chain 3, chain 3* around

R9: sc in the center of the chain 3, *sc in the top of the sc, 2sc in each chain 3 around*
join with slip stitch and chain 1 (you should have 36 sc)

R10: sc in next 9 chain 15 (this forms the button loop), sc in next 27 around (this should bring you to your first sc) join chain 1

Handle: Turn and hdc in next 2 stitches, chain 1, turn, *hdc in next 2, chain 1, turn* repeat till you reach desired length and then finish off leaving a long tail (approx 7-10inches) attach handle to other side of holder and then pull yarn through stitches to place button on opposite side of the loop.
